OUR COMPENSATION AS PARENTS

Here’s a story of a mother named Grace.

She had three children, she lived in a small apartment, and a heart bigger than her bank account.
Each morning, before the sun rose, she packed lunchboxes, braided hair, and whispered quiet prayers over sleepy heads.
She worked long hours, cooked tired meals, and stayed up late helping with homework she barely understood.

There was no salary slip for the hugs she gave.
No promotions for the patience she showed.
No paid time off for the nights she stayed awake with a sick child on her chest.

She was tired. Often.
She gave everything. Always.
And sometimes… she wondered if it was enough.

🌙 One Quiet Night

One evening, after an especially long day, Grace sat alone at the kitchen table.
Bills in one hand. Silence in the other.

She was about to cry when her youngest daughter tiptoed in, holding a crumpled piece of paper.

“Mommy,” she whispered, “this is for you.”

It was a drawing—stick figures of Grace with a crown on her head.
Underneath it said:
“My mommy is a hero.”

Grace smiled. Then cried.
Not from exhaustion—but from something else. Something deeper.

💛 The True Compensation

You see, parents don’t get paid in money.

We’re paid in:

  • First words and sloppy kisses

  • Unprompted hugs and whispered ‘I love yous’

  • Tiny footsteps running to the door when we come home

  • The pride in their eyes when they say, “That’s my mom” or “That’s my dad”

We’re compensated in moments.
In memories.
In growth we witness up close.

It’s not always instant. Often, it’s quiet. Delayed. Subtle.

But it’s real.
It’s deep.
And it’s sacred.

🕊️ And One Day…

One day they’ll stand tall on stages we never imagined.
They’ll solve problems we didn’t know they were watching us navigate.
They’ll raise others with the love we gave them.

And maybe—just maybe—they’ll turn back and say:
“Everything I am started with you.”

🌸 So, Dear Parent…

When the days feel long and the thanks feel few,
Remember: the work you do is planting seeds for a forest you may never fully walk through.
But your children will.

And that—is the greatest compensation of all.
